Benefits of Matcha

Benefits of Matcha

Hi friends!

We all might have noticed that matcha has become very popular in the last couple of years, if you didn’t know I’m a matcha lover!!

The first time I ever tried matcha I was a senior in High School, I had a matcha green smoothie bowl. When I finished the entire smoothie bowl my body doesn’t feel full its like at its perfect amount of food for me in the morning. The flavor of matcha is known to be grassy with a hint of sweetness but cafes have figured out ways on how to cover up that taste using milk or syrups. However, have you ever wondered why matcha has become so popular? What is so good about it?

There are so many interesting benefits to this tea that we might not realize when we order it at Starbucks. Here are five benefits to this pretty, green drink that I will cover for you but there are definitely many more to uncover!

FIRST BENEFIT: HIGH IN ANTIOXIDANTS

Matcha has one of the highest antioxidant ratings! Antioxidants are important for our body because they help to stabilize harmful free radicals. Free radicals are compounds in our body that can cause damage to our cells and lead to chronic conditions. The important antioxidant that matcha has is called catechins which is a plant compound in teas that act as a natural antioxidants!

SECOND BENEFIT: BOOSTS BRAIN FUNCTION

Many of us probably rely on coffee as a brain go-go juice, although matcha is a green tea it doesn't mean it can't do the same thing. Researchers have found that matcha improves attention, reaction time, and memory. Coffee has been linked to similar benefits, however, matcha actually contains a more concentrated amount of caffeine. It contains 35mg of caffeine per 1g of matcha powder!

THIRD BENEFIT: WEIGHT LOSS

Yes, matcha can in fact promote weight loss but not the same way like those disgusting laxative teas. Instead, matcha is known to speed up your metabolism for increased energy expenditure and boosts fat burning. If you mix matcha with a moderate work out schedule, you end up burning a lot more than you would without it! Helps you stay fit while still tasting so good!

FOURTH BENEFIT: IMPROVES YOUR SKIN

We all love a clear, clean face and self care has become more popular as well as creams, serums, and face masks. How about what you put in your body? Matcha is known for reducing redness due to its anti-inflammatory properties, helps improve your overall complexion and even out skin tone, treats oily skin, prevents breakouts, and reduces fine lines. All that with a daily dose of this green tea! The antioxidant catechines that I mentioned earlier is an important agent in slowing down signs of aging. A tasty drink and great skin? I'm all in!

FIFTH BENEFIT: CALMING

Research has shown that matcha contains L-theanine which is an amino acid that helps calm your body and put it in a meditative state. If you read my last article, you know that matcha comes from Buddhist culture which makes sense due to such calming effects. Although matcha contains caffeine, it won't make you all jittery from it because of the combination of L-theanine. Instead, you will feel more calm and alert after drinking it. Another big win for matcha!
